Location of Sugas Bai

The relief around the spa is formed by the median part of the Baraolt mountain, 800–1000m high, dismembered by the valleys of the streams into smaller and bigger parts. The Görgő-Havad peak surmounts graceful the region, and if we are courageous enough to climb up the Görgő, we will get a splendid view: we will see the valley of the Olt river and the Barcasági basin, right until the Fagaras alps, to the north the cones of the Harghita are winking beckoning. At the foot of this enormous mount, in the stream valley named after it lies Sugas Bai, 747 meters above the sea level. The favourable position of the spa, the apices and peaks breaking the western and eastern winds ensuring protection, make Sugas Bai always attractive.

Of course, it is not a coincidence, that all those curiosities are located here, which make the region remarkable and the people are coming so gladly. Namely from the south portion of the Harghita mountain passes along a mild northwestern-southeastern breakline at the eastern portion of the Baraolt mountain. At this breakline are rising from the deep the medicinal mineral waters and the extruding carbon-dioxide. In the past the „earth-whistle” was a beloved children game, operated by the gases shooting out from the earth. Today this superb game is relatively less known between young people.
Erstwhile children being fond of the forest went to make a trip in Sugas, and they were catched by a sudden rain. At those places, where the carbon-dioxide was rising from the soil, in the puddles were springing up bubbles. Now, the children drove away the water, but only so much, that they could see, where „the earth was breathing”. They put their hands on the gas outbreak and they plastered it with dirt. Then they were waiting patiently, and after they took out their hands from the dirt, they pricked the plastered hole with a branch. As the quantity of the carbon-dioxide increased, it begun to leak through the hole. They made a willow whistle from a willow branch, sliped it into the hole, and plastered around again. Suddenly the whistle begun to sound. It whistled and whistled, and it accompanied the laugh of the children, who were pleased because they could sound the old terra.
